Demi merayakan hari jadinya yang ke-20 dari roadster terlarisnya, Mazda telah memperkenalkan versi 'summer special edition' dari sportscar ikonik ini yang diberi nama Mazda "MX-5 Miyako".

Model baru yang dilepas ke pasaran pada 1 Juli 2010 ini, tersedia dalam dua versi, yaitu 1.8i Miyako soft-top seharga £18.385, dan 2.0i Miyako roadster coupe yang lebih kuat dengan atap lipat tercepat di dunia (buka/tutup 12 detik) seharga £20.885.

Nama "Miyako" diambil dari pulau tempat wisata di Jepang, Miyako-jima, yang dianggap banyak orang sebagai tempat terindah di Jepang, lokasi yang tepat untuk berkendara dengan atap terbuka.
