Whimsical Witch's Legs

It's my birthday today (I'm turning 39 or so ; ) ) *wink*!!  I've got a full day planned so I'm reposting the witch's legs I made last year.  I wish I could show you pictures of my Witches Tea Party from last October. My computer crashed and took several months of pictures with it - including my Witches Tea table decor.  The witch's legs were used as the focal point of the table a "hanging chandelier".  Our family room has high ceilings so I made extra long legs so the bottom of the "witch's boots" hung about one foot above the table where guests were seated.

Striped stocking witch's legs hang from the ceiling to make a whimsical centerpiece for my Witches Tea Party.  The black umbrella creates the look of the bottom of a witches dress with "crinoline" (fluffy underskirt) added to complete the look of a dress! It's impossible to make witch legs without adding the iconic black boots.  I love the look of the skinny, bumpy legs and large witches feet!

Tutorial: how to make whimsical witch's legs....

Stuff a pair of black and orange striped stockings with batting (it will be lumpy).

Simplicity Traditional Loft Quilt Batting-Full Size 81 Inch X96 Inch

Draw the outline of witches boots onto black fabric (chalk is easy to draw on dark fabrics). Make sure to make the boots large - when stuffing and sewing they shrink in size. Sew around the edges (except the top) turn inside out and fill with batting. I hot glued the boots onto the stockings and then hand sewed a couple of stitches to the front and back of the boots to hold in place.

To create the look of crinoline - I used black tulle. I cut pieces approximately 20 inches long.

I snapped off the umbrella handle - easy to do considering this is a dollar store umbrella. Tie the stockings onto the spokes of the umbrella.

Tie the tulle onto the umbrella spoke.

This is the umbrella turned upside down with all the tulle tied onto the umbrella.

This DIY project makes a great whimsical hanging focal point!

Make Your Own Plastic Egg Teacups

What to do with all the extra plastic eggs after Easter? Sunghee of Creativity in Progress came up with this very cute idea - plastic egg teacups.

Buttons stabilize the plastic egg.

How about a plastic egg birdbath? Soooo cute!

Make Your Own Edible Easter Bunny!

Many years ago, I owned a candy store in a mall. It was a bulk type candy store 200+ bins of candy. It was pure fun. We sold balloons, beanie babies, hand made fudge, sugar-free chocolates and darling gifts. My kids were young at the time - but they still talk about the candy store. I can honestly say our dentist loved our family:) We used to make these white chocolate bunnies at the candy store and sell them at Easter.

Technically, I need to explain that I've used the term white chocolate but they're really white candy melts. White chocolate needs to have 20% cocoa butter to be real... I've included instructions on how to make these adorable bunnies. This mold was purchased at Concepts in Candy (Northridge, CA) many years ago. Fortunately, they still make the bunny mold : ) UPDATE: The molds are shipped out within 1 -2 days (ask to see if it can ship out the same day). They ship out of So California -shipping on the west coast is 2-3 days and the east coast is 4-5 days. Here are other bunny molds.

Step 1:

Melt candy melts (Wiltons or similar brand) in the microwave. Melt at 50% power. When chocolate melts, it is ideally a smooth mixture. However, if it comes in contact with water, it will "seize" or turn into a grainy, clumpy mess. If you melt the candy too long (overheated), it will be thick and lumpy.

Step 2: Spoon melted candy into mold. Be careful not to overfill the mold.

Step 3: Let mold sit until candy is solid and easily removable. You can place it in the fridge to hurry it along. Pop candy out of mold. If candy doesn't pop out easily, that means it's not ready.

Steps 4 & 5: Fill box with candy such as Jelly Belly Beans. Use Super Pearl Dust and brush on the entire bunny face with a make-up brush. Pearl dust is an edible sparkle powder. Pearl dust can be purchased at Michaels in the confectionery section. Purchase a make-up brush at the dollar store - obviously you don't use this for your make-up : )  Dip the make-up brush in the pearl dust tap off any excess and brush lightly on the bunny face (make sure there is no moisture on the bunny. I used a q-tip to place the cotton candy sparkle dust on the ears, cheek and nose. Handle the candy as little as possible. Glue (use melted candy) the candy flowers (jumbo daisy sprinkles) on between the ears.

ast step: Place paper shred in bag and bag the bunnies. Tie a fun ribbon on and voila! Adorable. Cuteness. Don't leave these in a warm car - they get soft quickly. Also, if you need to make a lot of them just make the bunny face (lid only). You'll save time and money and still give a cute gift. Great gifts for teachers, neighbors and my girls church leaders. Somehow, I don't think my teenage sons church leaders would be too interested....
