There are many reasons a suit should be hung on hanger after each wearing. First off all it ensures the suit keeps it original tailored shape. Secondly it helps the fibers to go back to the original straight shape – reducing wrinkles. Finally it gives the suit the ability to breathe which will eliminate odors.
So what things should you consider when hanging your suit? First off all you will need the right hanger. Choose a hanger that is made from wood and at least 2 inches wide at the shoulder area. When the suit hangs on the hanger, the neck area should be free from wrinkles, and no pointy edges should poke through the shoulder area.
Hang your suit in a well ventilated area that is free of excessive moisture, dust, and direct sunlight. When hanging your suit leave all buttons open. This allows the suit to fall into the original tailored shape. Leave the suit on a hanger for at least 24 hours before wearing it again. If you are a daily suit and tie wearer than you should have at least 3 suits in your wardrobe. After a day you can hang your suit in your closet, but still leave an inch of breathing room between each garment.
Your pants should be hung close to the jacket to make it easier to find the matching outfit. Suit hangers have a cross bar underneath the coat hanger. If the hanger has clips, then hang your pants alongside -starting at the bottom. If your closet is not long enough, than folding your pants over the hanger might be a better option. Make sure that the bar is covered with a rubber material to avoid the pants from sliding and falling on the floor.
